This is about how many calories are burned doing various activities vs the calories we take in from the various foods we might eat.
The calories burned are often a big mystery in most people’s minds. We all have our general ideas that the calories burned are greater as we exert ourselves more. First, exactly what are the amount of calories burned for the various activities and exercises? Second, let’s compare the calories in the various foods we eat to find out how we end up at the end of a typical day.
We can start with sleeping. We burn about eleven calories every ten minutes, so the amount would be about 528 calories in eight hours.
The calories you burn just being awake and generally doing nothing is about 12-15 calories per 10 minutes.

36 Vacuuming
37 Moderate Weight Lifting

75 Brisk Walking

Calories Burned
When you combine this with the amount of calories burned from the food you eat, you have an idea what it takes to maintain, reduce or increase your existing weight. It also gives you an idea of what it takes to lose one pound of fat or gain one pound of muscle.
Generally, one pound of fat equals 3500 calories. Over 20 days, this only averages 175 calories a day. It is very easy to eat 175 calories more a day than you burn. It is easier to eat one less large cookie than jump rope non stop for about 15 minutes. The best is to do both.
