Xocai Chocolate Health Benefits

Chocolate Benefits – Hype Or Real – Finally The Truth!

Why was I so skeptical when I recently heard about a so called “Xocai Healthy Chocolate” that I did not even want to taste it!  Chocolate Benefits – Yea -  right!

“Chocolate Benefits” sounds like an oxymoron!  We have all heard about how organic dark chocolates are supposed to be so good for you with their so called chocolate health benefits.

So I really believed this was just another unhealthy chocolate someone was hoping I would buy and I actually had no real interest in even trying a bite.  Besides I had already eaten my limit of one piece of chocolate for the day.

2638003427_8ec1b1be90 cakeWhen I Eat Chocolate, I limit it to an occasional small amountbecause it is not that healthy.   (or so I thought)

I eat one of the 10 Billion pieces of chocolate eaten every day!

Dark chocolates always seem to have so much excessive unhealthy sweetener added to offset the strong bitter taste of natural dark chocolate, that it can hardly be considered healthy.  It does not matter if it is organic dark chocolate, heart chocolate, antioxidant chocolate, or low sugar chocolate, etc.

In fact, dark chocolates often list in their ingredients: hydrogenated…,   high fructose…,   maltodextrum, other artificial sweeteners, etc.   This bad stuff will easily overwhelm any so called chocolate health benefits.

So What Caused Me To Try This So Called Healthy Chocolate?

1) I was actually hoping it would be healthy.  I already knew it would taste great.    Doesn’t all chocolate taste great?   It’s just that I always felt guilty even eating one small piece.

I wanted to know what was so healthy about it.

2) Besides producing the raw dark chocolate (the truly healthy part) with a unique cold pressed processing system (not the usual nutrient destroying heating process), they also actually added some amazingly extra healthy ingredients.

3) They added Acai Berry and Blueberries to the Dark Chocolate, giving one small square of 6 grams an amazing unheard of Orac value of 3,582.   (extra high anti oxidants)

SO WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WHEN I TASTED IT?

As expected, it did taste really great!  But my big concern was always that it would not really be healthy.  So I looked up the ingredients and the method of processing expecting to prove that it really was not as healthy as claimed.

First I had to learn what was the big deal about ORAC.

What Is An ORAC Value?

The National Institute of Aging created a method of measuring how much antioxidant capacity was in a food.  They called this an ORAC Value (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity).  For example, blueberries have 24 Orac Value per 1 gram.  Raisins have 28.3 Orac per 1 gram, Prunes 57.70 Orac per 1 gram, Acai Berry has 185 Orac per 1 gram, and dark chocolate 597 Orac per 1 gram.

1727920529_586fddf6de mousseYou would have to eat 1 pound of broccoli or ½ pound of spinach to receive antioxidants equal to an ORAC value of 3,582.

According to Dr Steve Warren,   the FDA recommends we ingest 4000 to 5000 ORAC a day.   It is estimated less than 1% of Americans get enough anti oxidants.  We do not eat enough fruits and vegetables.   Properly processed dark chocolate is an excellent way to get large amounts of anti oxidants and polyphenols. Dark cocoa has such a naturally bitter taste because it is so high in antioxidants.

That sounded impressive to me!  (and healthy as far as it goes)

BUT THAT IS NOT REALLY ENOUGH TO CONVINCE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!………..

WHAT IS THE REST OF THE STORY?

SECOND     -     HOW IS IT PROCESSED – WHAT MAKES IT TASTE SO GOOD?

It turns out this chocolate does contain all 6 things that do make it really healthy!

WHAT 6 THINGS ACTUALLY DO MAKE A CHOCOLATE HEALTHY?

2083713742_29a56b5a11 chocolate1)  Has not been processed by “Dutching” – which removes the polyphenols before heating.

2)  Has not been heated above 100 degrees Fahrenheit – as this destroys all the antioxidants.

3)  It has been dried and cool-pressed rather than roasted.

4)  Consists of at least 70 percent pure cocoa.

5)  Contains cocoa butter instead of milk fats or hydrogenated oils.

6)  Contains natural, low-glycemic sweeteners-such as raw cane sugar-rather than refined sugar.

Unbelievably, this chocolate turns out to actually be healthy.   Imagine that – a real healthy chocolate.  I certainly became very excited because now I had an extremely great tasting chocolate that I did not have to limit to just one small piece a day.   And I did not have to feel guilty about it either.  I could use this chocolate to take some of the pressure off the vegetables!
